Canyoning in Japan is an exciting and exhilarating activity from May to October. Canyoning is the sport of descending canyons. Slide down waterfalls and splash in to deep pools that have been carved by millennia of fast flowing water. Canyoning involves swimming, jumping, abseiling, using ropes, and cascading down whitewater chutes.
Head out with local guides to go rafting on Hakuba Valley’s Himekawa (Princess River). A technical class 2 whitewater river with great views of the Hakuba mountain range. Both morning and afternoon tours are available and we welcome big groups to join in. After a ride down the river, a relaxing soak in a mineral onsen is included in the price.
The options for white water rafting in Japan are endless, but for those who have always wanted to try downriver canoeing or kayaking, here is your chance. Let Evergreen’s professional instructors teach you what you need to know to have an unforgettable downriver canoe or kayak experience.
Nagano has numerous lakes and rivers, many of them ideal for Kayaking. Enjoy flat water tours on Lake Aoki, a deep and clear lake fed by snow-melt, rain, and mineral springs from below. In the Summer the lake is alive with greenery, birds and fish and is beautiful for swimming.

Canoeing in Japan doesn’t get much better than on Nagano’s numerous lakes and rivers. We offer flat-water tours on Aokiko – Lake Aoki – a deep and clear lake fed by snow-melt, rain, and mineral springs from below.
Enjoy a relaxing paddle in a 10 person Voyageur Canoe across the pristine waters of Lake Aoki (one of Japan’s cleanest lakes located 15 minutes south of Hakuba). Glide to the northern shores where guides will prepare a delicious vegetarian picnic lunch including tofu sandwiches, soup, soy chicken and salad carefully prepared by the chefs at Evergreen’s Roots Cafe.

Stand up paddle boards (SUP) offer a fun, relaxing way to play on the water. With a minimum of gear, you can paddle across placid and beautiful lake Aokiko or increase your skill and adventure level with the challenge of paddling down class 1 and 2 rivers in the area.
Highly recommended for families with young children. With the assitance of rope and safety gear, you must travel across the river using your skill and strength. Feel refeshed after soaking in the clean and clear Hirakawa River, getting its water from melted snow on top of the mountains.
One of the most amazing night tours you will experience in Japan – a canoe tour to see Japanese hotaru – fireflies – dance above the waters of Lake Aoki. Hotaru need incredibly pure water to breed, something which spring-fed Lake Aoki has in abundance. If you are here in the summer months, a tour to see fireflies is definitely a must do!
